Centenary Holiday Experience Spring Spectacular
Over the Bank Holiday weekend of 28th/29th May 300 members of Girlguiding Jersey gathered together to celebrate the centenary of Girlguiding UK for a 24 hour event called CHESS.
The event comprised of several different aspects – residential for Rainbows and Brownies, a night hike for Guides, the opportunity to see the sunrise at St Catherine's for all members followed by a day of challenges at Le Rocquier School.
During the evening of the 28th, members were able to start the first batch of 100 challenges which had been divided into nine zones by completing the 10 challenges found in the residential zone. The challenges involved ranged from making a bookmark to mark the centenary to finding out about a leader’s favourite Guiding memory.
The Guides also worked on the residential zone challenges although they were not sleeping and also undertook some of the challenges in the time travel zone. The time travel zone covered activities that had been main features in Guiding over the previous 100 years.
These included sewing on a button which was a skill required of all Guides when the movement first began, shining pennies, laying tables correctly to completing a computer keyboard layout.
Before setting off for their hike, the Guides enjoyed a traditional indoor campfire.
