Girlguiding Jersey is one of the 16 Counties and
Islands of Girlguiding South West England
At Le Rocquier School there remained 70 challenges to complete during the course of the day. These were divided into several zones.
The outdoor zones with water games, an adventure course, a pioneering challenge and orienteering around the school grounds, an experience zone which covered everything from making and using juggling balls from rice and balloons to enjoying some time at the chocolate fountain which was a huge hit.
The arts zone including designing a uniform for Guiding members in 2110 when Guiding would be 200 years old to making smiley magnets and painting stained glass necklaces. There was also the opportunity to add thoughts on the day to the graffiti wall.
The mystery zone comprised of such activities as secret writing, the opportunity to taste different foods, coin rubbing and making discoveries such as how many items could fit into a matchbox and identifying the crest of the parish where members lived.
The challenge zone contained challenges provided by various members of Girlguiding Jersey which ranged from word activities to making card houses.  There were also some activities based around the promise which complemented the sunrise renewal of promise.
Finally, the All sorts zone included making campfires out of matchmakers, midget gems and rich tea biscuits and making music out of bottles filled with different levels of water.
In addition for the Rainbows and Brownies, there was the opportunity to spend time in the time travel zone to complete the activities that the Guides had undertaken the night before.
Each member had been issued with a passport which contained a checklist for all the challenges which was signed off as a challenge was completed.  There was also space to complete a memory card of the event with members being encouraged to complete this with special memories of the event.
Although the weather could have been kinder, the rain that fell towards the end of the event did not dampen the spirits of those taking part.  At the conclusion of the event, everyone received their souvenir badge having completed the challenges before them over the 24 hours and went home tired but happy.
