On Saturday 21st November 2009 over 100 members of Girlguiding Jersey together with family and friends assisted Jersey Trees for Life with their Hedgerow Campaign by planting trees and shrubs in fields in the parish of
St Clement.
Three one hour planting sessions were held during the morning with Guides, Brownies and Rainbows all taking part. At each session Michel Morel Education Officer for Jersey Trees for Life explained the importance of planting trees to support the Hedgerows and how this would help the local wildlife especially hedgehogs.
Conrad Evans from Jersey Trees for Life then gave a demonstration of the correct way to plant the trees after which the girls and adults collected their spades and began planting over 120 trees and shrubs.
At the end of the event Island Commissioner, Hilary Hardy presented Michel Morel with a cheque for £250 on behalf of Girlguiding Jersey in order to assist Jersey Trees for Life with their work in respect of the Hedgerow Campaign.
Mr Morel thanked Mrs Hardy for the cheque and thanked everyone for their help with the morning’s planting activities and wished everyone in Girlguiding Jersey a successful Centenary year.
