At the Annual meeting of Girlguiding Jersey on Saturday 19th November, members of the 2nd All Saints Guides and 16th St Peters Guides celebrated after receiving the highest accolade for Guides – the Baden-Powell Challenge Award.
Danielle Nobel-Devenney, Melanie Marsay and Francesca Monticelli from 2nd All Saints Guides and Sydney Guyomard and Victoria Pigeon from 16th St Peters Guides received the award from Island Commissioner Sonia Machon.
The young girls all aged between 14 and 15 had to complete 10 challenges from 5 zones encompassing healthy lifestyles, global awareness, discovery, skills and relationships and celebrating diversity. They also had to go on an adventure.
Over the last year the girls have completed a range of exciting activities to achieve the award including holding a mini Olympic evening, an American themed night, a pamper evening, having a birthday party, exploring arts and crafts, learning to cook and about safety in the kitchen, helping at brownie units, learning to play archery and how to communicate in the 21st century. Victoria Pigeon said “the best thing was getting to meet and have fun with younger members”
The adventure took them to Foxlease in the New Forest for a weekend camping with other guides from around the South West region. The guide run centre allowed them to develop their skills, make new friends and reflect on their accomplishments. “It has been a really valuable, enjoyable experience. It makes you aware, gets you involved, you learn new skills and have a great experience. It’s really fun” commented Francesca Monticelli.
The girls are now looking forward to their time in Senior Section.
Awards were also presented at the Girlguiding Jersey Annual Meeting to Tina Cauvain, Judith Davey, Tracey Lumb, Hilary Hardy and Sonia Machon for service and to Jean Huish on becoming South District Commissioner. Vee Beatie and Karen Benest were unable to attend. The event finished with a presentation from Eloise Hamon and Megan Barette on their International Guiding trip to Canada.
