Grouville Guides Do The Double
The annual Girlguiding competitions were held recently in St John, and the 12th Grouville Guide team, of Lauren Mundy, Cerian Mason, Hannah Mundy and Annie Bugbird won both the Nolan and Fillieul Trophies. The Competition this year was called "The Apprentice meets Dragons Den" and teams of 4 girls from Island Guide units, with a combined aged of no more than 48 years, took part.
The Nolan competition was held in the morning and was based on the TV programme The Apprentice.
The teams of 4 had to come up with a name for their group, create a logo and strap line and using a selection of liquids, pastes, creams, colours and essences create a beauty product. After designing a label they made a TV advert and lastly had to pitch the beauty product to the ‘supermarket’ represented by states members Andrew Green and Jeremy Machon.  Hannah Mundy said ‘ I was really nervous pitching our product,’ a perfume called Fabulous ‘ I was very scared in case we giggled’
The Fillieul Trophy is traditionally a camping/outdoor competition and was held after lunch with a  Dragon theme.  The tasks for this was to  create a dragon from junk materials, dealing with fake dragon breath burns, building a shelter for a dragon and lastly building an open fire and cooking popcorn on it, which the girls enjoyed eating afterwards.
Once the marks had been totalled up, 12th Grouville Guides won both trophies with St Marks Guides runner up in   the Nolan and All Saints Guides runners up in the Fillieul. Lauren Mundy, patrol leader of the winning team said         ‘ We worked well together as a team, and felt that it had gone very well, and so pleased we won’.
Summing up the days events was one of the organisers Nicky Maindonald “I was really impressed with the way that the girls worked together in their teams, but equally impressed that they all supported each other especially wishing each other luck before going to the judging panel. We were so lucky that the weather was fantastic, it was an excellent competition’
