A Message from our Island Commissioner

Welcome to Girlguiding Jersey.

As I take over the Girlguiding Jersey Island Commissioner role I would like to introduce myself to you all.

I started my Guiding journey as a Brownie and Guide at 11thSt Clements. After achieving my Young Leader’s qualification at 11th St Clements Guides, I became an assistant leader at the unit where I remained until 1985, when I moved to 12th Grouville Guides and have been there ever since. I have had a variety of larger role within Girlguiding Jersey, including East District Commissioner, Guide section commissioner, Girlguiding South West England’s Region Junior Council (representing Jersey),Camp and Residential Advisor, Baden Powell Award Coordinator, Queen’s Guide Advisor, and more.

Residential events (especially camping) have always been my passion, and I am keen to encourage large scale events for all our sections to be involved in. I once heard someone say that if they were a stick of rock, then Girlguiding would run through the centre. I wish I could claim to have said this first, because I genuinely think this applies to myself.

I would like to extend my thanks to Helen Barette and Karen Johnson for leading us over the last five years, and hope I can continue encouraging and empowering girls and young women within Girlguiding Jersey, and be as inspirational as they have been.
